    Educational information:
The turtle is a sacred figure in Native American symbolism as it represents Mother Earth. The meaning of the Turtle symbol signifies good health and long life.
13 Moons and 28 days are on all turtle shells. This equals 364 days, plus one day of rest. All indigenous people around the world knew the wisdom of the turtle and followed a 13 month calendar; after all, there are 13 moon cycles in a year and 27 to 29 days per cycle.
It’s to serve the connection between the people, and the sun, moon and stars which are themselves a giant clock.
For some Indigenous peoples, Turtle Island refers to the continent of North America. The name comes from various Indigenous oral histories that tell stories of a turtle that holds the world on its back. For some Indigenous peoples, the turtle is therefore considered an icon of life, and the story of Turtle Island consequently speaks to various spiritual and cultural beliefs.
