    Description

This stunning Veil/burga comes from the Beersheba area and it is worn by the women of the Bedouin tribes. This face covering is beautifully hand-embroidered with geometric and vegetal drawings, and has a number of Ottoman, Egyptian and Palestinian silver coins sewn along the fabric. The blue beads
serve to protect against the evil eye, and the amount of the coins placed on the
face represents the social status of women. The Woman will personalize it by adding small decorative and symbolic items. It represents an important role in the lives of women in the Beersheba area and reflects the
economic, social and marital status of women and the tribe to which they belong to. This one belonged to a unmarried woman, therefore there is more of the face covered. Beersheba is located to the southwest of the city of Hebron, and it is the most important city in the Negev of Palestine.
